End Child Marriage is this years theme for the “International Day of the Girl Child” to marked on October 11, 2012 for the first time. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on November 11, 2011 with resolution number (A/RES/66/170) to put a special focus on to the rights of girls around the globe and fight against the double discrimination and marginalization due to their gender and age. This world “Day of the girl child” believed to bring awareness among the international community, the UN agencies, policy makers, rights groups and civic societies to prioritize girl’s rights as the prominent issues in the coming decades.
Ending Child Marriage! was selected as an official theme of the inaugural day or this year’s celebration as Girls’ empowerment will be impossible unless we address the fact that every single day, 25,000 girls around the world are married off before they turn 18.
End Child Marriage!
